Before You Lock the Door:
A Fire Safety Checklist for Eid

A pre-departure guide for every family heading to their village home

🕌 Eid is almost here. The bags are packed. The kids are excited. The train tickets are booked. Everyone is rushing to get to their village home — the warmth of family, the joy of Eid together.

"Is our home truly safe while we're gone?"

Every year in Bangladesh, fire incidents spike during Eid holidays — empty homes, unattended appliances, gas lines left open. A single overlooked switch can turn your Eid into a tragedy.

Electrical Safety
Unplug all non-essential appliances Iron, chargers, TV, washing machine, microwave
Switch off the main circuit breaker Only if the home will be fully empty and fridge is emptied
Check refrigerators and extension cords Do NOT leave refrigerators on overloaded or damaged extensions
Inspect lights and switches Check for flickering lights or sparking switches; fix before leaving
Kitchen Safety
Turn off the gas cylinder valve completely Do not just turn off the burner knob
Disconnect the regulator Remove it from the cylinder entirely for maximum safety
Clear the stove area Ensure no food, cloth, or paper is left near the burners
Decorations
Remove all candles & incense
Unplug fairy lights & LEDs
Keep fabrics away from bulbs
Around the Home
Store flammable liquids safely
Dispose of dry waste & trash
Ensure fire exits are unblocked
Before the Final Goodbye
Inform a trusted neighbor that you are leaving
Share your contact with building security or caretaker
Take a quick photo/video walkthrough before locking up

✅ A 2-minute checklist today can protect years of memories tomorrow. Share this with your family, neighbors & building group chat.
